ANNE CAMPBELL WINS CHARITY'S TOP VOLUNTEERING AWARD
Mrs Anne Campbell from Newton St Boswells has been presented with a Shining Star award, the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland's highest recognition for the work of its volunteers. Mrs Campbell has volunteered with the Society, Scotland's leading charity for people affected by MS, for over 50 years in a variety of roles. She works tirelessly 52 weeks of the year baking, making sandwiches, visiting people at home or in hospital, organising fundraising events, serving on the local branch's committee, liaising with social workers, arranging transportation and being at the end of the phone for anyone who needs her no matter what time of day.
Mark Hazelwood, Director of the MS Society Scotland, said: “Volunteers are the backbone of our work, carrying out a host of different roles to support people affected by MS. The Shining Star awards recognise really outstanding contributions and Anne is undoubtedly one of our most deserving winners. Her many years of committed voluntary work have helped to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by MS in the Borders and I am delighted that we can acknowledge her dedication with this award.”
Lynda Boyce, Volunteer Development Manager for the MS Society Scotland, added: “Everyone in the Borders branch is very proud that Anne is being recognised in this way. Her commitment and hard work have been an inspiration to us all and is highly valued by her colleagues. But I also know that she will be the first to say that she couldn't have done it without the support of all the other volunteers in the Borders who give their time for the Society. We would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to support our work by becoming a volunteer.”
