Branch Information

FACT SHEET INFO

Information:
We have a bi-annual Information Day in September.

Many informative leaflets on such topics as social security benefits, diet, managing with MS etc have been published by the MS Society and can be obtained through the branch.

Grants:
If you are affected by MS, either as a person with MS or as a carer, and you require financial assistance with holidays or equipment there are grants available from Borders Branch and MS Society Scotland. You do not have to be a member to apply for a grant.

You may need assistance with items that cost £200 or under and the grant form for this amount is very simple and requires only minimal information. If you require financial assistance that is in excess of £200 you will be required to fill in a more extensive form. Although this form is unfortunately more complicated because of Charity Law there is help available from the Branch to complete these forms.

If the Branch is unable to meet the full cost of your requirements you will be able to apply on the same form for a further grant from MS Society Scotland National Office.Forms are available from Judy Eglington and if you need advice or help to fill in these forms you can contact her by phone 01573 420576 or e-mail

Transport:
The Branch has a vehicle that is available for use by people affected by MS. The Renault Kangoo is kept at Galashiels and is used mainly for transport to and from respite holidays, social outings and trips. We have a transport manager to oversea the servicing, running, booking etc of the vehicle. Our local authority social work department also have, when needed, minibuses available which have a hoist allowing wheelchair access. If you wish to use the branch vehicle please contact Darrin on 01896 758499.

Meetings:
Meetings held at Teviot Church hall the second Thursday of every month from April to 0ctober excluding August because of holidays. For further information please contact Linda Landels: 01450 377044

We also arrange social outings for people affected by MS.

Membership:
The annual subscription to the branch is £5. All subscribers receive a copy of the branch newsletter and the society's magazine 'MS Matters'.

Newsletter:
The branch newsletter is produced on ocassion and contains a mixture of what's going on in the branch, successful fundraisers (they all are!) and relevant information. We also like to include stories from our readers!

Volunteers:
The branch is run by volunteers to whom we give great thanks. If you'd like to give some of your time to help the Borders Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society or help us by selling raffle tickets, baking, fundraising, helping at coffee mornings or flag days, please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.
